Welcome. I'm Bernie Rowell, an artist who creates art quilts, highly textural painted quilts that are decidedly not your grandmother's quilt. My art quilts incorporate mixed media--paints, collage, and found materials--to create contemporary art.
As an artist I'm inspired by many different sources, but the beauty of the western North Carolina Mountains
that surround my home always provide fresh ideas.
As a craftsperson I'm deeply rooted in the traditional western
North Carolina craft world where skills are improved through daily
practice. At the same time the vibrant energy of the Asheville art
community challenges me to change and grow.
